Way to roll with Sean Weber and the "Tapers from Hell". Sick recording of a sick second set....WOW! check out the UJB>China Rider>Esimated>Foolish Heart. If you like this one, also look into Sean Weber's Greeks summer 1988. Weber and his crew has their FOB stuff dialed tight.

93 shows and this one is hands down my favorite. Just listen to the UJB end/jam smashing right into the most insanely rocking China-Rider I ever heard (let alone saw..fours rows back). It's damn near perfection. Then a strong Estimated goes into the suprise of the night- sick, sick foolish heart that goes right back into the UJB jam and then rocks us into drumz. I know the rest was great, but dl this for the first 5 songs of the 2nd set. Classic dead from any era.

too bad--sonically these cal expo audiences are really warm but the band sleepwalks through the entire run. the audience sounds as if they would rather be separating their recycling and gives the band nothing to feed on--to me, this was often a problem in the late period on the west coast. here in the east, although the crowd could be crass at times, we usually gave em' a hero's welcome. redeemers indeed!

Note to Bonk: The shows were in Sacremento not San Fran (Hour 1/2 away) I was 19 years old living in Alamogordo New Mexico w/ my (then ) wife and 5 dogs and 2 cats and we picked up our friend Ray at Albuquuerque airport on Wednesday night and drove 1700 miles up to Cal Expo.
Sat in upper middle bleachers to the right of stage on Brents side sounded great live, great location beautiful river and camping. Bill Graham released 1,500 extra tickets for each nite which was super cool great shakedown st and vending. probablly the best dead experience of my life!!!

Subject: fantastic audience show!
This is a great show and all files are here the hsow rocks. It is not audience typical. I am a sbd only fan, personally, however, since the resitrictions on sbds I have been downloading the best audiences I can find. I have very strict tastes btu its easy to get 'lenient' after a while. I jusdge quality by the overall presentation of the music in its available media. The drums, strings and vocals all normalized- or none superceeding another in other words. This mix is tight. There is some crowd noise but its not like a audience of Giants stadium, heck expo only holds 8k. This is a 5 star audience recording.
Anyway, estimated is very hot and the uncle john's set 2 opener really jams hard. Seriously kind foolish heart- an early one.
Enjoy!

PEOPLE! you're supposed to review on the sound quality of the recording, not the god damned good time you had. this sound is crap. 1 star, NOT 5!
thanks for wasting my time downloading a piece of garbage. Sure this show is hot, but not worth it!

This second set was a hidden gem of mine from the XL2 days and the source here sounds great from the impact zone. the foolish>drums has phil going nuts over the band. I would advise listening to this one
